Which Eyebrow Treatment Is Right For You?

In the beauty world, there are so many different brow treatments to choose from. From tweezing at home to microblading at the salon, we break down each eyebrow treatment to help you find the best one to fit your personal style and budget.

Tweezing is certainly the least expensive method of removing unwanted eyebrow hair. A tweezer can range in price from a few dollars at a local drugstore to $20-$30 for higher quality models at beauty of department stores. The benefit  to tweezing is that it gives you a lot of control over the shape of your brows. Tweezing can conveniently be done anytime you want from the comfort of your home. However, it can also be time consuming and at times, frustrating to achieve the look you want.

Eyebrow waxing is a quick treatment where wax is applied, either hot or warm, to the skin and then the hair is ripped away from the skin. For teens or others who are new to eyebrow upkeep, waxing can be a great option. Waxing can be a bit painful and requires regular treatments to maintain shape and minimize hair growth. However, it’s a cost effective solution especially for thicker hair and reduce its regrowth rate.

Eyebrow Tinting
Unlike other eyebrow treatments, eyebrow tinting doesn’t remove hair. Instead, it uses semi-permanent dye to enhance the color, shape and fullness of your brows. Eyebrow tinting will make your eyebrows appear darker and require a touch up every 3-4 weeks. You may see blogs online showing you how to tint your eyebrows at home but this procedure is definitely best left to a professional.

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup solution that uses a very fine series of acupuncture needles to deposit pigment into the epidermis using the “hairstroke” technique. Microblading is an involved procedure that includes a consultation and a few visits before the final look is achieved. However, the result is semi permanent, natural looking, and shapely eyebrows that wow! The investment is well worth it, since it can last anywhere from 1-3 years with little maintenance in between.

The term Microfeathering was coined by celebrity eyebrow expert Kristie Streicher, co-owner of Striiike in Beverly Hills. Kristie’s clients include Julia Roberts, Adele, Mandy Moore, and Gwyneth Paltrow among others. Microfeathering uses a super thin blade to create precise, hair like incisions. The result mimics natural hair that looks as if you never needed to tweeze a day in your life. An added benefit? The long lasting process only needs to be repeated every year to 18 months.

Microshading uses an electric or manual hand tool to create a soft, eyebrow powder effect on the skin. Microshading uses repetitive dots of pigment instead of the hair stroke technique associated with microblading and microfeathering. The end result looks like many Instagram brow pictures you scroll through – definitely more dramatic of a look in comparison to the other treatments. If you like your brows to look thick and filled in, microshading is the treatment for you and it lasts for over a year.
